Keto Dalgona Coffee
Ah…. Dalgona coffee. It’s everywhere. Kinda reminds me of the chaffle craze. Don’t know what that is? Check out this keto chaffle and I’m sure your memory will be jogged!
Anyway, I’m not a HUGE coffee fan. I mean, it’s fine and it serves a purpose, but I am not one who loves coffee and who can’t wait to sit down with my morning cup.
Having said that, I do enjoy the “froofy” type drinks like keto latte drink and also keto frappuccinos. So, when I first heard of a Dalgona coffee, I thought I could easily make it keto and it could fit right into my “froofy” coffee requirement for enjoyment!
Let me be the first to tell you that it did not disappoint. Of course, I had to make it keto and give it some sass, but that is to be expected, right?
How to Make Dalgona Coffee Keto Style
Add espresso powder, sweetener and hot water to a small bowl.
Using hand beaters, beat for 4-5 minutes or until fluffy and frothy.
Add cold almond milk and optional ice to a mug and then add whipped coffee on top.
Top with your choice of optional toppings and enjoy!
What is Dalgona Coffee?
I’m not doing to go into the history and origin of Dalgona coffee, because, well, that is not why you are here.
Instead, let’s talk about what ACTUALLY is Dalgona Coffee? Basically it is a whipped version of coffee that you serve on top of a milk or non-dairy drink. Scoop it, stir it, spoon it – the choice is yours!
Serve it plain, with chocolate or caramel syrup, cinnamon sprinkles – go crazy!
Should I Use Instant Coffee or Espresso Powder
The cool thing about this recipe is that you can use either one. I personally prefer espresso powder because it is AWESOME!
Now, I should warn you that espresso powder is going to yield a much stronger Dalgona coffee drink.
So depending on your tolerance for coffee strength will dictate which one you should use. You could always use espresso powder and split this into 2 drinks instead of 1 if you don’t want it as strong!
Can I Freeze Whipped Coffee?
You most definitely can! Thawing it and getting it the right consistency to drink can be a bit of a challenge, but you can definitely freeze it!
Dalgona Coffee Kitchen Essentials
You’ll need just a few things to make a delicious keto whipped coffee drink!
Hand Beaters – You can certainly try to whip the coffee by hand, and I’ve seen plenty of people do it. But let me just say that it is a million times easier to use hand beaters. And it isn’t cheating!
Coffee Cup – I’m sure you have one, right? RIGHT? If not, no worries. Any cup that can handle hot liquid without burning you will do!
And, of course, the ingredients!
Keto Dalgona Coffee Variations
Some fun things to add to your dalgona coffee are cocoa powder, cinnamon, and brown granular sweetener.
Have a little fun with yours! The great thing is that you can try a new variation each day!
