I enjoy all kinds of Salmon. But we don’t eat it ENOUGH! And I don’t know why. The only thing I can think of is that we have 7 people in our family and Costco only carries farmed Salmon and I prefer the fresh Salmon. I get all my meats at Costo since I like to buy in bulk.

When we DO indulge with some salmon though, I love experimenting with some good seasonings! This Blacked Salmon Seasoning Recipe is not only gluten free, but it is Paleo as well as keto!

Score on all 3, right? That is the perfect combination for me!

The absolutely awesome thing with this blackened seasoning is that you can use it on ALL kinds of meats, not just on salmon. Another score!

How to Make Blackened Salmon Seasoning

I’m not sure you are ready for how easy this is. Are you ready?

You simply mix everything together and give it a good shake!

I like to make it ahead of time so that it is ready to use. You can, of course, make it right before use as well!

Seasoning Flavors

As for the flavors, we use:

Chili powder
Paprika
Garlic powder
Cumin
Basil
Onion powder
Brown sugar substitute (Coconut sugar for Paleo, Swerve for Keto)

A typical blackened seasoning contains chili powder, along with garlic powder, onion powder and salt.

For this particular blackened salmon seasoning, we stick with the chili, garlic and onion and then get a little crazy! Salt is, of course, optional, but the cumin, paprika and basil add this full-body flavor to the base that will make your taste buds dance!

And THEN, we add in just a touch of sweetness. This will round out the flavor in a way that you certainly didn’t see coming!

How to Store Blackened Salmon Seasoning

As with any spice or spice mixture, they should be stored in a dry place in an airtight container.

What is a Good Seasoning Storage Container?

I enjoy using mini mason jars like these ones on Amazon. They are the perfect size for most spices and provide that airtight seal that you need!

Any airtight container will do just fine, but these are my favorite!

Can I Only Use This Blackened Seasoning on Salmon?

Um…… of course not! Use it on anything! So far, we’ve tried it on salmon, pork and chicken – all turned out lovely!

Salmon is my favorite, of course! Make sure to check out my Keto Blackened Salmon recipe (coming soon)!

How Long Does Blackened Seasoning Last?

It is not set in stone. I like to take the earliest expiration date from any of the spices used and use that date.

Always use common sense, but this will give you an idea of the max expiration date.
