Keto Smoked Teriyaki Tofu
Ok, so I’m going to tackle the elephant in the room first. Is tofu Keto? Not for strict keto, but it is fine on occasion in my opinion.
HOWEVER, if you are going to do soy in any capacity, please make sure it is organic and non-GMO. Soy is one of the highest GMO crops there is and, well, GMOs are not good!
This recipe has a smoky, salty flavor. It is unique and perfect for tofu. The sauce can be used for other marinades as well – the sky is the limit!

Is Tofu Keto?
Well, we already touched on that mostly. It is not exactly the best for strict keto. Not because it is high in carbs, but more so due to the inflammatory nature.
Make sure to check out why you shoud care about keto weight loss and inflammation.

What Should I Eat Tofu With?
Well, I love to eat tofu with broccoli! Here is an amazing keto broccoli casserole which is also low carb, of course!
Some asparagus perhaps? Maybe even a soup!

How to Make Smoked Teriyaki Tofu
The first thing you want to do is drain tofu and rinse your tofu.
Place on a paper towel (top and bottom) and press down. Soak up the excess liquid.
Set the tofu on dry paper towels and let sit for 20 minutes to soak up more liquid.
Meanwhile, prepare sauce according to instructions and set aside.
Cut tofu into small squares.

Heat olive oil in large pan over medium-high heat.
Once oil is hot, add tofu so that there is an even layer and all tofu is touching the pan.
Using a brush, paint 1 tablespoon of sauce over the top of tofu.

Cook for about 5-10 minutes (based on how done you like them). I like mine firm, but not crispy.
Flip tofu around and add 1 more tablespoon of sauce to tofu.
Cook for 5-10 more minutes depending on desired consistency.
Stir them around and cooking for another 2 minutes to touch more sides on the hot pan. No need to cook all the sides.

You should have leftover sauce to paint on top of tofu before serving if desired (we like to do this). You certainly dont have to and if you don’t have any leftover – no biggie!
Serve hot.

Enjoy!
