Keto Cheese Danish

I think this keto cheese danish is one of my most favorite treats that doubles as a breakfast.

I will quietly admit that prior to my gluten free and keto days, I had been known to drive to Starbucks frequently. Not for the coffee, but for their cheese danish. I am a sucker for any kind of danish with sweet cheese.

It was probably one of my absolute favorite treats. Then keto happened. Well, it didn’t happen, I chose it and I gave up that practice.

So what’s a girl to do? Create a keto version that far exceeds the regular sugar and gluten filled Starbuck’s version.

How to Make Keto Cheese Danish

Are you ready to learn how to make this amazing keto breakfast treat? If so, let’s get to it!

The first thing you want to do is to add 1 1/2 cups Mozzarella cheese and 2 oz. cream cheese to a microwave safe bowl. Heat the cheeses at 30 second intervals until they are completely melted and combined.

Keto Cheese Danish Ingredients

Place the almond flour, 3 tablespoons low carb sweetener, cinnamon and baking powder into a mixing bowl with the cheese dough, and knead with your hands until well combined.

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixing bowl with the dough, and beat on high until combined.

Keto Cheese Danish Dough

Place the dough into the freezer to chill for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Roll the chilled dough into a rectangular shape between two pieces of parchment paper. You want it thin, but not so thin that it tears when handled.

Keto Cheese Danish Dough

Cut the dough into 6 rough rectangular or square shapes. Fold the edges of each rectangle/square up into the center of each shape to form a sort of octagonal danish shape with a space for the filling in the center.

Combine the ingredients for the filling in a mixing bowl, and beat until smooth and creamy.

Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry, and bake for 20 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

What to Eat with a Keto Cheese Danish

Well, that depends on if you are eating the cheese danish for breakfast or for a treat! Both of which are perfectly acceptable! And to be honest, you don’t need to eat anything with it as it is a full breakfast/treat all on its own.

If you are eating this keto cheese danish for breakfast, then I might recommend eating some keto maple bacon alongside it. Or perhaps a keto sausage egg bake. Or just some good old fashioned scrambled eggs!

Or what about some chocolate bulletproof coffee? Now that is a great way to start your day!

How to Store Low Carb Danishes

These keto danishes store beautifully in the refrigerator. You really want to keep them cooled due to the cheese.

Also, it is best to store them in an airtight container as that helps keep them fresh for longer.
