I was thin my entire life. I never had to worry about what I ate. I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and however much I wanted.
Around the age of 34 is when I began my health journey. I started eating healthy and began my marathon and triathlon phase of life.
I had birthed 3 kids at this point and was in amazing shape. I felt good and had no health issues to my knowledge.
Around the age of 40 (after my 4th child) I started weight lifting and was truly in the best shape of my life.
I’m not sure what happened, but things started to change. I started putting on weight, feeling tired all the time, and my hair started falling out.
Turns out, I had undiagnosed Hashimoto’s and was Prediabetic (what???).
I ate healthy, worked out, lived a healthy lifestyle and yet there I was, Prediabetic with Hashimoto’s (at the time they thought it was hypothyroidism and it hadn’t been diagnosed as Hashimoto’s yet).
I decided that Keto was the way to go in order to attempt to reverse my Prediabetes and get my blood sugars under control.
In 2 months time: I was able to reverse my Prediabetes and I lost 20 pounds.
Not only that – I felt AMAZING. My hair loss stabilized, my extra weight was gone, I had energy and I felt good for the first time in a long, long, long time.
I developed my own plan that changed over time. I ate high fat, low carbs, and moderate protein – exactly as the Ketogenic plan of eating is set forth. I stayed in ketosis and had planned cheats every few months.
It is a LIFESTYLE. That is what makes it work. My mind is in the right place. It has to be – that is the KEY!
When my hypothyroidism was rediagnosed to Hashimoto’s, I removed dairy and eggs from my diet. I was already gluten-free and had been for years. That was the only modification I had to make in order to get closer to a version of Keto that was in line with the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP).
It is now my pleasure to help other women transition to keto, lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It isn’t always easy, especially starting out.
