Get the most out of Turmeric!

This is going to be something you hear me talk about ALL the time. It is truly a super-food, super-spice, super-duper-everything! I’m going to focus this post on a few of the colon specific benefits and you’ll see a million others coming along soon about the other health benefits.

I eat Turmeric every day. I often see people make the mistake of just sprinkling it into a smoothie, blending, and drinking. If you do it this way, you miss a large portion of the benefit that you *could* gain. I am generally not hungry in the morning, but I drink a collagen protein shake with almond milk and my secret sauce.

What is in my secret sauce you might ask?

  • Coconut oil
  • turmeric
  • black pepper

Why Turmeric?

Did you know that there is a very low incident of colon cancer in India? It is often attributed to the natural antioxidant such as curcumin. Curcumin is the yellow pigment in Turmeric. It is attributed to other things as well, but this is a large component of the “theory”. Other studies have been done where Turmeric has been used to attempt to treat colon cancer where other methods have failed and they have seen success. That was my immediate desire for Turmeric and why I started consuming it daily.

Why Black Pepper?

It aids in the body’s ability to absorb Tumeric (kinda crazy, right?)

Why Coconut oil?

Several reasons. Coconut oil helps protect Tumeric from harsh stomach acids. The other big reason is that Tumeric is fat soluble and needs FAT.

Basically by heating up the coconut oil, blending in the turmeric, and mixing with pepper – you increase your body’s ability to absorb turmeric by a TON (like a double TON)!
