In the world of dietary preferences, the carnivore diet stands out for its strict adherence to animal-based products. This Carnivore Diet for Beginners guide will give you all the basics if you are new to this lifestyle.
While most would associate this diet with steaks and eggs, a novel concept is breaking the mold: Carnivore Dessert Bars. These animal-based treats are designed for those committed to the carnivore lifestyle but with a nod to the sweeter side of life.
Tools Needed
The kitchen essentials needed to make this carnivore dessert are:
What Are Carnivore Dessert Bars?
Carnivore dessert bars are a unique creation aimed at satisfying the sweet tooth of those on a carnivore diet. Unlike typical desserts, these bars aren’t filled with sugars or traditional sweeteners.
Instead, they incorporate animal-based ingredients, subtly enhanced with natural flavors, to provide a satisfying end to a meal that remains true to the carnivorous ethos.
Having said that, they do offer an optional zero carb sweetener for those who want to up their sweetness game just a bit. Because, let’s face it, sometimes having just a smidge of a sweet flavor isn’t the end of the world.
How to Make Carnivore Dessert Bars
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease an 8×8 baking dish. Add all the crust ingredients into a small bowl and use a spatula to combine well.
Press the batter flat into the bottom of the baking dish and bake for 16 minutes. The crust should be medium brown. Let cool.
Meanwhile, add the eggs in a medium bowl and beat until they are fluffy and bubbly, usually about 4-5 minutes. Slowly add optional sweetener, optional vanilla, heavy whipping cream and butter (in that order) while continuing to beat.
Pour onto cooled crust and bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
Let cool completely before slicing.
Substitutions
The optional ingredients include cinnamon, zero carb sweetener, and vanilla extract. These are all optional because they are not strict carnivore ingredients. You can remove them or keep them in.
When it comes to substitutions, these are the areas to play with. Other spices such as nutmeg and allspice are options. Sweeteners can vary depending on taste. I recommend staying with the zero carb sweeteners, however. I would stick with stevia, erythritol, monk fruit and allulose.
Finally, almond extract is another extract that would fit nicely with these bars. It really depends on preference and adherence to the diet.
How to Store Carnivore Dessert Bars
These carnivore treats can easily be stored in the fridge for up to a week. Let them cool completely and then add them to an airtight container and store them in the fridge.
Does This Carnivore Dessert Taste Like Egg?
This dessert offers a smooth and creamy texture that might surprise you. It’s notably free from any overwhelming egg flavor, presenting instead a subtler, more refined taste.
Contrary to what one might expect from a carnivore treat, there’s no hint of pork rinds here. Instead, it boasts a well-balanced blend of flavors that are gentle and understated.
