How Many Carbs In Keto Hot Dog Buns?

This recipe is made with fathead dough, which is very popular in the Keto and low carb community. It involves combining almond flour and baking powder with melted cream cheese and mozzarella to create a bread-like texture.

If you’ve never had fathead dough before, this may sound crazy to you. But believe it or not, mozzarella is a perfect ingredient for mimicking the texture of gluten! It’s one of those things you just have to try.

I like to add some xanthan gum to help give the buns some extra chewiness. The cream cheese is also great for giving fathead breads a little more moisture.

With these low-carb ingredients and a little bit of seasoning, each bun comes out to only 6 net carbs per serving. Compare that to traditional hot dog buns, which can have 20 to 25 net carbs each!

What To Serve With Low-Carb Buns

When it comes to hot dog buns, what better to fill them with than a good ole hot dog? Sometimes, you just can’t beat a classic!

However, when shopping for hot dogs, I always recommend checking your labels. You want to avoid brands that sneak in added sugars, unnecessary preservatives, or fillers like extra gluten.

I love topping my hot dog with some homemade ketchup with a kick and diced onion. If you prefer mustard or relish, both of these are great low-carb options as well!

Want to branch out from hot dogs? These buns are great for enjoying bratwurst, chicken or turkey dogs, or any other kinds of sausages. Feel free to use them wherever you’d normally use a hot dog bun!

Can I Store Keto Hot Dog Buns?

You bet! In fact, fathead dough is known for keeping very well in the refrigerator.

Simply store your hot dog buns in an airtight container in the fridge. They will stay fresh for up to five days.

When you’re ready to enjoy, I recommend letting them warm up to room temperature. You could also pop them in the oven at 350 degrees to heat them up if you prefer.
