Keto Baklava
If you haven’t yet tried baklava wings – prepare your taste buds for a treat! When you are trying to eat a certain way (low carb or keto diet for instance), it can be hard to not just make the same recipes over and over again. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut. That’s why I love recipes like this. Easy to make, healthy, and a great spin on a classic.
What is Needed to Make Keto Baklava Wings
In addition to the minimal ingredients, very little is actually needed to make this great recipe:
- Medium Size Mixing Bowl for tossing chicken and spices
- 9×13 Baking Dish (a baking sheet would also work in a pinch)
That’s it! No food processor for the coating or any other complicated tools or supplies needed. This is an easy recipe to put together.
How to Make Keto Baklava Wings
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
Sprinkle the chicken wings with coriander, cumin, cinnamon, minced garlic, honey, lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste.
Toss to combine well. Add the wings in a single layer in a 9×13 baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes.
Reduce the heat to 400 degrees. Remove the wings and sprinkle them with the pistachios and walnuts.
Return the wings to the oven and bake for another 20-30 minutes, or until browned and cooked completely through.
Are Chicken Wings Keto Friendly?
Chicken wings are a great option for a keto friendly meal! As long as you use low carb ingredients sauces for your wings, you can be assured that they continue to be keto friendly!
You can’t assume all wings are keto friendly though, that is especially true for crispy wings as most store bought ones are made with flour and other high carb ingredients. And if you prefer a crispy wing, be sure and use keto friendly ingredients such as almond flour, egg yolk, coconut milk, etc).
Are Baklava Wings and Buffalo Chicken the Same Thing?
While you might think that all chicken wings are the same, they aren’t. Buffalo wings are going to be a bit saucier and spicier, while these are bursting with many different flavors.
Is Buffalo Sauce Needed for This Recipe?
While this particular recipe does not call for buffalo sauce, you can still use a keto friendly buffalo sauce for dipping! I know many people who just have to have buffalo sauce with their wings, so if you are one of those people, feel free to keep some on hand! Just make sure it is low in carbs.
Other sauces that work well with these wings are ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, honey mustard or pretty much any sauce that you prefer so long as it is keto friendly.
How To Store Keto Baklava Wings
As unlikely as it seems, if you happen to find yourself with leftovers of these wings, not to worry! These wings store quite well as long as you keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
You can even freeze them if you don’t think you’ll be able to enjoy them in the first few days after you make them. To freeze the wings successfully, follow the instructions listed here:
- Spread the cooked, but cooled to room temperature wings in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Place in the freezer for approximately 1 hour.
- Remove from freezer and store together in a large, freezer safe bag or container.
- Store for up to 3 months.
When To Serve These Keto Baklava Wings
You can really serve these wings anytime you want, but they really are great for super bowl parties, birthday parties or any other type of gathering. They are also easy enough to make them for a quiet night at home with the family.
